One of the many factors contributing to shorter life expectancy for individuals with serious mental illness is that they receive poor primary and preventative healthcare. This practice brief describes a Center study that elicited information from Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) practitioners identifying barriers to the integration of mental health and primary care. Recommendations for enhancing collaboration between primary health care and mental health care services are suggested.
