Current Health Perspectives on the Legalization of Cannabis
The debate continues over medical marijuana and broadly legalizing its use among adults. There are several public health questions about the potential medicinal benefits and health harms associated with legalization. Attendees will learn about current research on cannabis, including issues pertaining to risk for mental illness and impact of the drug on brain development. The presenter will also address several specific arguments in the cannabis legalization debate.
About the Presenter
Ken Winters, PhD
As one of the original founders of the Center, Ken is now serving as a consultant to the Center’s youth research and services branch. He is a Senior Scientist at the Oregon Research Institute (MN location) and Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Psychology, University of Minnesota. He founded and directed the Center for Adolescent Substance Abuse Research at the University of Minnesota for 25 years. His primary research interests are adolescent health, with a focus of substance abuse and co-existing mental and behavioral disorders.
