This session, based on research, will help the participant understand the importance of utilizing culture appropriately when working with clients from tribal/Native American communities in terms of addiction treatment and prevention. When counselor and client rapport is emphasized and effective, the client benefits at a higher rate and relapse rates are reduced.

Leon Leader Charge, BS, is an enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, Rosebud S.D., and also a part of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, Pine Ridge, S.D. Leon recently completed a B.S. Addiction Studies from the University of South Dakota, with an emphasis in treatment and prevention continuum.
