Helping Families Help: From CRAFT to the Invitation to Change Approach (ITC)

This webinar offers a brief review of the Invitation To Change Approach (ITC), a unilateral model of support developed for families concerned about their loved one’s substance use. We will discuss the historical events that led to its inception, including efforts to build a peer support network using CRAFT, delivered through peer-to-peer conversations informed by Motivational Interviewing. We highlight the contextual factors creating the need for developing this model to directly support families irrespective of their loved one’s treatment involvement. The challenges encountered and the iterative modifications that led to the present-day ITC curriculum will be discussed. The webinar will end with a brief discussion of future directions and expansion plans for ITC dissemination nationwide.
